1991 Bluebird bus conversion

29000 USD

Alas, The time has come to sell our beloved bus! We lived full time in this bus for 8 months. An over seas opportunity has opened up for us, so we must be moving on. The bus is in Rhode Island right now but we will be driving it down to Virginia in 1-2 weeks.
"Cabin Fever" began life as a school's band bus, thus the cargo compartments. We have all maintenance from the time it was a school bus until now. It now sports a fabulous custom paint job and knotty pine interior.
It is powered by the indestructible 5.9 Cummins diesel. Power is transferred to the rear end through an Allison 545 automatic transmission with an over sized aux cooler for desert use. Truck air brakes and dual trumpet air horns. Full set of gauges including trans and exhaust temps. 65 gallon diesel fuel tank. Fully self-contained with 90 gallon fresh water, 35 gallon black water, and 50 gallon grey water tanks. 2, new 6 volt deep cycle house batteries and a new 3000 watt pure sine wave xantrex inverter, new control panel and new transfer switch. New 50 amp shore power cable. 1 roof a/c, Duo-therm forced air furnace, Suburban 6-gallon water heater and an on-demand water pump. 15 gallon propane tank and a 25 gallon gasoline tank for the generator. Gas tank also has separate pump to be used as fueling station for your toys. Onan 4.0 emerald gas generator. 2 roof vents with fans and Maxx-air covers. Loads of storage. 4 Alcoa aluminum wheels. Class 3 trailer hitch with trailer brake controller. Color back-up camera.
Inside has a queen bed in the rear. 2-6 foot side bunks, and a 6' kitchen table that converts to another double bed. Full size shower w/separate toilet. Full size desk with a/c power next to it for use as a mobile office. Kitchen has 4-burner stove and oven. Refrigerator is 120v or propane, 25' side awning.
Now for the not so good: While the inverter, the control panel and the transfer switch are all brand new, the shop we had install these things did not install them properly. I feel sure that someone who knows about these things could fix them quite easily, but alas we are mechanically challenged to put it mildly. I believe it to be that it was wired improperly. The transfer switch clicks of and on while trying to charge the batteries. (The batteries charge fine on the generator.) Too much power went to the refrigerator which melted some wires so now it doesn't work. Again, anyone who is mechanically inclined could probably easily fix this. Despite these things we were able to live in the bus just fine while on shore power.
Before the bus electrical was "upgraded" the refrigerator worked well on 120. Since the house batteries are hooked up to charge while the bus is running I run it off the inverter while driving. The automatic ignitor for propane use is flakey. Sometimes it works, most of the time it does not. I just manually light it. Once lit it works fine.
Both corners of rear bumper are scratched and front driver side cargo door has rust. The cargo door issue is from the A/C runoff.

The only reason it is for sale is that my life has changed. I have lived comfortably (and cheaply) in the bus for 8 months. I did this in Rhode Island and was warm in the snow and dry in the rain. I have driven the bus across the country, which was a true blast, and I would do so again. It is mechanically as sound as can be. Again, I have all maintenance records. I am so confident in this cabin's roadworthiness, for the cost of a plane ticket home, I will personally drive it to you once you have paid for it.

We just purchased four new wheel covers which are included. Also, the pictures show no mattress on the twin bunks but we do have them. It gets 9-11 mph on the highway averaging 55mph.

Price is firm. It is as low as we can go

Please, DO NOT assume anything, If I have missed anything or you want more/different pics. I have a ton...just ask....its not a problem. I want you to be fully informed. I have already made a slide show on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qvl1WXGsumI
