I have a Dog Silencer brand ultrasonic bark control device that works indoors and outdoors if protected on yappy nuisance barking up to 300 feet away from the device. The device picks up on barking sounds, and emits a high-pitched sound only the dogs can hear; it's above human hearing, and it corrects the barking as a cause-and-effect tactic. The ultrasonic sound isn't painful to dogs, it's merely annoying, the way nails on a chalkboard are to humans. There is also a setting with an audible 'beep' so humans can tell when it does go off, so the sensitivity settings can be adjusted. It comes with the main unit (uses AA batteries), an A/C adapter, and a remote insta-zap button for when the dogs are yapping and the device didn't pick up on the barking. It can run on batteries or plugged in, has a 75-foot sensitivity range to dog barks, but can be heard by dogs up to 300 feet away and through walls and fences, as it worked on the Yorkie in the apartment below us. It worked wonderfully the first week we had it - our Jack Russell and Rat Terrier shut up - until they figured it out went off nearly continually with their nails tapping and echoing on our hardwood floors as they ran back and forth down the hallway, and so they didn't learn that they weren't supposed to bark.

This is the link where we bought it from. http://www.ultimatebarkcontrol.com/dog-silencer.htm
This brand came with the best reviews, and other devices were pretty pricey at PetCo and PetSmart.
We paid $90 + s/h, so $50 is half price.
