9829 Reese, the colorful calico beauty 9829 (front declawed)

Up for adoption is Reese, a stunningly beautiful and spunky calico cat around 9 years old.

Reese is one of the nicest and wonderful cats I have ever rescued. She has a really sad history. I originally took her in about five years ago. She had been left abandoned in the middle of a pet store in a carrier. A vet tech from my vet just happened to be at this pet store when Reese was discovered and took her straight to the vet to have her checked out. She had a terrible crystallized UTI and was in a lot of pain. It was also discovered that she was FIV positive, not common in female kitties. After having to remain on IV antibiotics and in the hospital for a month, she was finally released to my care. Due to her wonderful personality, she was almost immediately adopted to a wonderful family. Over the past couple of years, though, that family grew to include a VERY noisy and exploring baby. Reese was fine at first, but once the baby was on the run, Reese's personality changed and she began to hide all the time and only wanted to get away from where the baby was (which unfortunately was also where the rest of her humans usually were). They ended up making the very sad decision to return her in her best interest. Many tears were shed the day she had to come back. She was very much loved (as you can see from her pictures, most of which were sent to me from her previous owners).

Reese was then placed in a home with an 80 year old man and his caregiver. She LOVED it there, and would perch herself on the arm of the man's chair and watch TV with him every day (see pic). She would also follow him around everywhere, whereever he went. However, Reese was returned about 3 months later when unfortunately they had to rent out a room in the house to someone and felt that Reese would not do well with the newly added stress.

And, well, here she is, looking for her forever home...again.

Reese has a great personality. She does get along well with other cats--see the picture of her snuggling with her best FIV pal, Dominic. She also does get along with dogs--see those pics also---but that was a friendship that took a few months to develop. She is a bit awkward at first and may be a bit shy in her new home, but after a short while, she will warm up and start showing her true princess qualities. She is sweet, snuggly, and as you can see, totally beautiful. She is also a petite cat, weighing around 7 or 8 pounds. She has her favorite things, as well, which is really cute..toys and a blanket, which must go with her to her new home.

Since originally being rescued and recuperated from her infection, she has been on a special diet, which she will need to remain on. She has been diagnosed with FLUTD, which means that when she gets stressed out, her bladder becomes inflamed and she may have an accident outside of her box. Her special diet is CD urinary stress management food, a new food that has shown to have amazing results. She loves the canned and dry. This food can be purchased at any vet office or Petsmart with a Banfield. Other than this, her FIV has remained in check and she has only had to return to the vet for her yearly shots-rabies and distemper, which she will be completely updated on prior to adoption. She has also been spayed and she was also previously front declawed. Finally, she is also microchipped.

As mentioned earlier, Reese does have FIV, which means her immune system is compromised compared to non-FIV cats. She does not require any medications. What FIV cats require are being fed a consistent and quality diet, a low-stress environment, and if she were to get sick, she may need to be observed a bit more closely because it will be more difficult for her body to fight off sickness than it would be for a non-FIV cat. FIV cats can live very normal lives. In fact, Reese has been healthier than many non-FIV cats I have cared for.

Reese really needs a stable home preferably with no children. She needs to live a low stress life without any foreseeable major changes (moves or babies, etc.). She would be excellent in a home with quiet adults who are home more often than not.

If you would like to welcome Reese into your family, please contact me. Completion of an adoption questionnaire and adoption fee required.

Thanks!
