Actresses Needed For Short Film (seattle)

"Dreaming In Spanish" is a short film made up of three scenes from a feature-length script. The completed short will be used to promote and secure funding for the feature. It is a love story, by turns comedic, dramatic, and surreal. It tells the tale of two women in Portland, Oregon who set out to adopt and raise an unusual child. This is an unpaid, non-union project, made in accordance with the Seattle Film Institute's MFA program. The shoot will take place on four nights, with meals provided in advance. Two afternoons of rehearsal will precede the shoot. The actors cast in the short will receive a copy of the film and be invited to audition for the feature. Please email a headshot and resume, and bring a copy of each to the audition. Have a three to five-minute monologue of your choosing, and a cold read of a scene from the script.

Characters:
Mel: (30's) Passionate, confident, a spiritual rebel. She wants nothing more than to adopt a child with Joey and start a family. No longer a practicing Catholic, she remains fascinated with St. Teresa of Avila, who appears often in her increasingly lucid dreams.
Joey: (20's) Skeptical, no-nonsense, tough-talking but secretly vulnerable. She is as down-to-earth as Mel is fanciful. The thought of settling down and starting a family terrifies her, but she's so in love with Mel that she's willing to give it a try.
