And to the person e-mailing me about me being wrong about proper feeding to be "at least a dozen medium crickets a week", YOU are the one misinforming people. That is so dangerous to do. Anyone interested can read this reply I sent to help better understand why they require a lot less sustenance than you would expect. :)

You are misinforming people about the care of tarantulas, my family has cared for tarantulas for years and years. You should feed them at least a dozen medium crickets every week.

RE:

Oh no, you are terribly misinformed on proper husbandry of a tarantula.

Tarantulas should be fed once a week or once bi-weekly depending on their size and depending on the size appropriate to the body of your tarantula. Yes they will continue to eat should you keep tossing in food, however this is because they are "programmed" to take as much as they can get. The reason being that in the wild there is anything but an ample and steady supply of food. They will take as much as they can get as there may be little to no sustenance in the wild at any point during many seasons. But in your home, there will be an ample and very steady supply all year long.

Tarantulas do not have a metabolism like that of a humans' or other non arachnid being. Causing "at least a dozen mediums" to be highly dangerous as they will engorge themselves to the point of their abdomens rupturing and they will die.

How long has your family been keeping? I suggest you and also your family do some searching on proper husbandry and care, to ensure longer lives of your animals and for their best interest. I will suggest arachnoboards.com as a reputable source. Not a pet store chain, as many of them are terribly misinformed as well. I help run that site and you will be able to find some real answers. Or you can go ahead and ask me, I would be more than happy to help you with answers.
I will also recommend the TKG for some good reading on the.
