CASTING CALL for UNO Masters Thesis Film "Vela & Niyah"
Auditions are being held Thursday, Sep 10, Friday, Sep 11 (both 5-7 pm) and Saturday Sep 12 (early afternoon).

This is a paid gig. This is a graduate thesis film project that will be shot through the University of New Orleans on October 16th, 17th, 18th, 23rd, 24th, & 25th in New Orleans, LA
SYNOPSIS:
Vela has spent her life living in her twin's shadow as an 'unwanted.' The stark difference in their treatment comes to a head when their grandmother refuses to allow Vela to wear ceremonial robes in her family color. Vela is denied a familial connection that should be rightfully hers and is publicly shamed by her grandmother. Niyah brings Vela to the surface to remind her of the truth of her origins. In the end, Vela is able to take solace in the love of her immediate family and reaffirm her relationship with her sister.
CHARACTERS:
[VELA] Female. Early - mid 20s. Natural Hair. Black/African American. Niya's younger twin. She is an unwanted child and wants her family's love and acceptance more than anything. Impulsive, an artistic soul. She struggles between the love she has for her sister and the jealousy she feels. LEAD.
[NIYAH] Female. Early - mid 20s. Natural Hair. Black/African American.Vela's older twin. She was raised as a cherished child. Responsible, quiet and usually passive (except with Vela). She is protective of Vela and feels responsible for her. LEAD.
[AMMA] In her late 50s/early 60s. Natural Hair. Black/African American. The twins' grandmother (maternal) and a respected elder. She is very traditional and set in her ways. She sees Vela as a burden and cannot bring herself to look beyond the shame Vela brings to her family. SUPPORTING.
[SIMMA] In her late 40s/early 50s. Natural Hair. Black/African American. The twins' aunt. She feels obligated to take care of Vela. SUPPORTING.
