Nick Minchin was a Liberal Senator for South Australia from 1993 until 2011. He served as a Minister in the Howard Government for 10 years, and was a member of Cabinet for 9 years. He served as Special Minister of State (1997), Minister for Industry, Science and Resources (1998-2001) and Minister for Finance (2001-2007).
He also served as Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate (2004-2006), Leader of the Government in the Senate (2006-2007), and Leader of the Opposition in the Senate (2007-2010).
Senator Minchin retired from the Senate on 30 June 2011, and took up his current post as Consul General in New York City in May 2014. He holds degrees in Economics and Law from the Australian National University. When in Australia, he and his wife, Kerry, reside in.
