DRUM INSTRUCTION with FRED KLATZ

Study with a master teacher. Become a literate drummer. All ages and levels.

World class drum instructor Fred Klatz is accepting students for private study. I have a unique, results oriented, approach that is both educational and great fun. Lessons are tailored to each individual's wants, abilities and needs. I can show you how and what to practice, effectively, to reach your next level and am committed to helping you get there. Especially good with young people and beginners of all ages. I have coached thousands of drummers in my 30+ years of teaching experience and have been a faculty instructor at the renowned Drummer's Collective in NYC since 1987.

I can teach you to truly understand how to read rhythm and drum set notation, demystifying it once and for all, so that it can be used as a tool for developing interdependence and increased learning capacity. My perspectives and patience in explaining how things work are unique in the history of teaching drums and my methods are used by teachers world-wide.

Creative studies, concepts and interpretations for developing groove, time functioning, technique, coordination, independence, fills, chops, speed and double bass drum control. Understanding and playing in odd meters. Comprehension and application of polyrhythms, cross rhythms and practically any other conceivable advanced rhythmic concept.

Learn to play your favorite tunes. I have a passion for creating the most accurate and aesthetic transcriptions available. I am a big fan of progressive rock and have transcribed many pieces from ELP, Genesis, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, UK, UZ, Yes, Zappa, etc. as well as the best or only accurate versions of numerous classics from The Beatles, AC/DC, James Brown, Led Zeppelin, Devo, etc. I also have a large body of songs transcribed from current groups like Arctic Monkeys and Linkin Park. So whatever artist's music you love I can help you explore it in detail.

I am the author of the self-published "On Time - A Workbook For Drummers" used extensively by my students at The Collective and around the world. I co-authored (along with Terry Bozzio) the booklet included in Terry Bozzio's "Solo Drums" DVD and performed his chapter on the CD included with the book "Lessons With The Greats". I also have written more than 5,000 pages of instructional materials, to draw from for lessons, as well as an extensive library of some 1,500 books from throughout the history of drum studies.

My students have performed with Jeff Beck, Herbie Hancock, Jack Bruce (3 different students!), Symphony X, The Crimson ProjeKCt, Chaka Khan, Prince, David Archuleta and Ryan Star (from American Idol), Yoko Ono, Bill Laswell, Zepparella, Kayo Dot, Time Of Orchids, The Adrian Belew Power Trio, Fear Factory and The Rock Of Ages to name but a few.

I live to teach and music is my life. My new students always comment that they have learned more in a few lessons than they ever have in the past. Call me. Let's get started!
