What qualities do you look for in finding the right math tutor? Experience, certification and cost cannot guarantee the tutor will be suitable for your needs. Also, professional tutoring services cannot guarantee success. Many of them charge high costs but pay the tutor very little in return. Another consideration is the tutor doing this because he or she is between jobs or desperate for some modest income? So, now what? What should you look for in a good math tutor? A sensible thing to do is to call the tutor and speak with him or her. Try to assess their motivation and most importantly, their enthusiasm. See if the tutor is interested in tutoring or if this is just a job to pay the bills. Ask to find out if he or she will work with your child's teacher to determine where your child is having difficulties. Most importantly, ask if you will be charged if the lesson goes over by 15 or 20 minutes. In short, try to determine if the tutor is willing to go the extra mile to help your child succeed. Also, don't pay over $35.00 per hour for a tutor. This may be a telltale sign that the tutor is tutoring for the money and not really caring about you or your child's success. What I Can Offer I am willing to particularize and customize to the level of your needs. Students prefer such individual instruction because it allows them to learn at their own pace without the pressure of peers or authorities. Parents, eager for their children to succeed, realize their children often need more personalized attention than they can get in a classroom.
