Foster or adopt a senior lab mix named Midler (her owner passed away) (Orange Co)

Midler is a senior black lab and beagle mix over at Orange County Animal Shelter who needs someone to foster or adopt her. Her adoption fee has been reduced to $20 (seems that a lot of people are rooting for her to get out!). Her ID number is A065018, the shelter website is http://orangecountync.gov/AnimalServices/adoption.asp, and can be reached at

If you know of any rescue groups that specialize in seniors or people who could adopt or foster a quiet, laid-back senior dog, please let me know as I would be happy to facilitate transfer.

Midler has a sad story in that she apparently was living with an elderly woman who was hospitalized and then passed away. Now, Midler has ended up in the shelter because the woman's other family could not take care of her.

After visiting with her, I can tell that although she is a little timid and has a wistful sadness about her, she seems to be very calm and quiet, warms up to you quickly and enjoys your attention, and doesn't seem to be nervous around the other large, barking young dogs as she walked past their kennels. Although she's on the smaller side, she's likely around 40 lbs (she was well-fed for sure!).

Her history states that she does not get along with cats, but that she is housetrained, heartworm free, and spayed. I'm posting because I'd hate to see this old girl end up being euthanized and the shelter being the last thing she knows after her owner's death. It's a wonder she's made it this long. I have half a mind to foster her myself, but it would be challenging for me to do so right now without knowing that someone else could ultimately take.
