I am a full time professional who has performed and written songs for over 30 years and worked with many local artists. I teach folk, blues, and ragtime (Piedmont) finger picking (Dylan, Doc Watson, Blind Blake) as well as the electric styles of Black Keys, Muddy Waters, The Allman Brothers, SRV, and the Stripes. I offer help with all types of folk style finger picking as well. The lessons are fun and tailored to your needs, but goal oriented and structured. I believe playing "by ear" is very important, and I teach ear training to all my students as well as basic reading skills. This includes the ability to recognize chords and chord patterns as the student listens so they can pick up their instrument and play what they've heard. Another important benefit of this ear training is the ability to transpose songs into another key on the spot. These abilities are within reach of all students.
