Hi, my name is Tim De Benedetti and I've been teaching guitar for over ten years now and playing for over 25. I play in the following bands- THE WILES, TOBY, DIPLODOCUS... and I'm also a composer of serious music in the classical style for piano and various chamber, vocal, and orchestral arrangements. My teachings are based on the principles of music theory as are generally taught, accepted, and practiced, and on the guarantee that I can play anything that I can hear. I just recently moved to Nasheville after living and working as a musician in New York City for the past seven years and I'm looking for new students so I can CONTINUE doing what I love- teach about music.
My main strength as a guitarist is blues-based rock but I also have a good deal of experience playing and teaching the following styles: jazz, metal, country, hard-rock, rhythm and blues, folk, and pop. And I can teach you about improvisation, song writing and composition as well.
The best way to learn about the guitar and strengthen your chops as a player is to copy other artists who are successful and whose work you admire. For this reason lessons are often based around learning a particular song or learning about a particular solo. However, typically a student's goal isn't just to play a solo by Jimmy Page, but to learn to play LIKE Jimmy Page, and for that reason I always tie the material in the lessons to the precepts of music theory- so not only can you learn the part note for note, but you understand what's going on in the music. In any well-written song or well-constructed solo there are so many things to learn from and take away that it's really the teacher's JOB to be a guide through the music and offer insight where it can be of use. This sort of ANALYSIS is especially valuable for students looking to develop their own style in soloing, or sharpen their skills as a songwriter or all-around player.
I've had tons of happy students over the years that can attest to quality of my teachings (if you're looking for references) and I have plenty of experience with students of every age and ability level- from the absolute beginner to the highly advanced pupil. The lessons can be at your place or mine, however the rate will vary accordingly. If you have any questions feel free to call or contact me via email by clicking the link above.
