Don't pay money to have you or your child learn tunes by rote -- tabulature (tab) is FREE all over the internet! If you take lessons you should get skills for your money and effort, and reading and understanding music and harmonic structure are skills that are very hard to acquire from scratch by self study. I use solid methods to teach these skills and augment the method books with fun and current tunes in standard musical notation to encourage music reading in my students. All of my material and approaches are a result of 25 years of teaching the instrument and 35 years of playing it -- I have a very deep bench of approaches to help a student learn any concept they're having trouble with. Additionally, I offer low pressure recital events for my students to learn how to deal with the anxiety many feel when approaching live performance. My degree is in music at VCU, my post-grad work in music at George Mason, and I have played professionally in the Mid-Atlantic region for 25 years.
