Lottie

When I recently drove to pick up a boxer from a rural shelter about an hour and a half west of Richmond, I saw that the small building in the middle of nowhere was packed with abandoned hunting dogs. The hounds were mostly 2 to 3 to a kennel. I asked the animal control officer "If I could take another dog, who should it be?" He immediately pointed to an older female foxhound in a cage with another dog. He said she had been with them for over 3 months and was very sweet and got along with everyone. I told him to load her in the car with the boxer.

Lottie is a very submissive, friendly girl who loves to run and sniff like all good hound dogs do. She is fantastic with other dogs, cats and children and would do best in a home with at least one other dog. She has 4 other dogs in her foster home and is usually found either playing chase, wrestling, or snuggling with them. Lottie walks nicely on a leash and enjoys car rides. She went to her first adoption event recently. There was a huge crowd (hundreds of people and dogs). She stayed calm and was friendly with everyone she met. She actually spent most of her day upside down letting small dogs crawl all over her and begging strangers for belly rubs!

Lottie is about 7 years old and weighs around 45 lbs. She is very affectionate and will settle down nicely after a play session and just cuddle on the couch. She looks like she's had puppies in the past (probably several times) and given the area she came from, she was probably an abandoned hunting dog. She loves to be indoors with her people, though, so I'm sure she hated life as a hunter! She is not a big barker and will usually only make noise if she feels she has been outdoors long enough and is ready to come in!

Lottie's only faults - she is afraid of thunderstorms (not horribly, but she will want you to cuddle and pet her during them) and she MUST MUST MUST go to a home with a very securely fenced yard. She has made no attempt to jump or climb a fence, but if there is a hole or gap she can squeeze through, she will. That hound dog nose of hers makes her want to inspect the neighborhood pretty regularly! She is not a dog that will ever be good off leash and she should never be left outdoors when no one is around to check on her.

Lottie has been spayed, vaccinated (DAPP and rabies), heartworm tested (negative and on preventatives), and she is microchipped. She had a dental cleaning and had 10 teeth pulled. That sounds like a lot, but it didn't slow her appetite down one bit! If you are interested in adopting Lottie, please email for an.
