Make sure rescues have NH license to sell (NH)

Illegal Rescues don't want you to know they are doing anything and everything wrong!
or that they are trying to get your dollars in their pockets advertising dogs and other animals they are not allowed to sell here in NH - and often lying about the breed, mix, health or temperament!

They don't want you to know they are operating illegally. They just want your money!

They don't want you to know offers of transport to you are illegal as is meeting you in some parking lot to transfer pets.

These groups ALL KNOW they should be licensed in NH to sell here, transport here or foster dogs here but refuse to get licensed! That tells you a lot about them right there!

They want to dump pets for dollars as far away from their locations as possible so that any problem you have they won't have to do anything about and you will have no recourse if you were lied to when they took your cash.

Getting licensed means they would have to follow NH laws on quarantine of transported animals, vet care and housing - so why would any good rescue not want to do that for the animals and new owners and other local pets?

Wouldn't you think a good rescue would have local adopters lining up to adopt? Sketchy ones have to go further afield to find gullible buyers... They spam all across Craigslist and other advertising sites ignoring all rules.

Are you really comfortable giving personal information to unscrupulous illegal rescues?

These groups are not licensed in NH
NY- www.nycsecondchancerescue.org neither is the Red Hook shelter in NY.
Nor is the group NY Pet-I-Care
Nor is deathrowdogs
neither are these
www.NewEnglandHumaneSociety.com
and this one that says contact ccrnewengland at gm**l.com which is Critter Cavalry Rescue New England
Ready for Rescue is another group based in NY and not licensed in NH.
Journey Animal Rescue is not licensed in NH.
There are scammers who pretend to be NH rescues but are not licensed in NH and just want your money in their pockets such as libbyslegacy.net
This group is not licensed in NH and cannot legally have foster homes here Karuna Bully Rescue of CT.
The last two are from Rhode Island and do not have a license to sell rescue pets in this state.
Several lie about the breed types and health status of the dogs they are selling illegally too.
501(c)(3) Does not mean 'licensed' it means they claim to be a non profit - which again does not mean they don't make money on the sales they make.
The one that says they are a 'local rescue' is not a local rescue they are from out of state.
Feathered hearts avian rescue is from VT and is not licensed to sell or rescue birds in NH.
All it takes is a call or email to the state veterinarians office to find out who is operating legally and who is not.

A health certificate or quarantine from another state has zero value here in NH - they are too easily and too often faked by people cutting corners to increase profits/sales.

Lots of profit in selling out of state pets particularly if you dodge doing all the legal requirements.

I find it pretty sad none of these groups care at all about the many local needy animals that die here because they can find no homes.
Plenty of dogs and cats (that our shelters will not take in to re-home) right here in NH are in desperate need of homes and there are plenty of legally licensed rescues and shelters here to choose from. In particular I think of all the needy pit bulls born and raised here that are out of luck with no shelter that will take them and no new homes available :(

Don't fall for the scammers - avoid illegal rescues - if you are unsure if they are licensed or not then check with the NH state veterinarians office to see - or ask the contact person and see how fast they drop you like a hot rock or try to lie to say they don't need to do that.

People who break the law to sell animals as far from where they live as they can manage are not good rescuers. They don't care about the law, they don't care about you or your family, and they don't care about the animals they are selling - they just want them gone and your money in their hands.
These 'rescues' often vanish once they dump the pet on you and if there are any problems they are your problems not theirs!

What is wrong with these groups? They bring in diseases to infect local pets, they keep local pets from getting adopted or getting shelter space, they reduce adoptions from licensed rescues, they leave new owners high and dry when it comes to animals that don't work out...

Section 437:10 V. Once a dog, cat, or ferret intended for transfer has entered the state, it shall be held at least 48 hours at a facility licensed under RSA 437:1 or at a facility operated by a licensed veterinarian separated from other animals on the premises before being offered for transfer.
437:13-a Health Certificate for Dogs, Cats and Ferrets. --
I. No dog, cat or ferret shall be transferred by any person in the state or out of the state for a fee without first being inoculated against infectious diseases using a vaccine approved by the state veterinarian. No dog, cat, or ferret shall be transferred by any person in the state or out of the state for a fee unless accompanied by an official health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian within 14 days.
Section 437:10 II The transferee may accept a dog, cat, or ferret that has a noncontagious illness that has caused it to fail its examination by a licensed veterinarian for an official health certificate under paragraph I; the transferee shall sign a waiver that indicates the transferee has knowledge of the dog, cat, or ferret's noncontagious medical condition and then submit such waiver to the licensee who shall send a copy to the state veterinarian.

NOTE - NO transfer of animals sick with contagious illnesses including dogs with demodectic mange or kittens sick with 'colds'. or cats with FIV!

The rescues should be operating legally for the safety of the animals and people involved.
Legal rescues should have NO problem posting their name and NH license status!
If you find you have contacted an illegal rescue get all the info you can from them and report them to the NH State Vet's Office.

As for the illegal rescues - if you don't like being called out for operating illegally then simply get legal and get licensed with the State of NH to operate your business selling pets in this state and follow the laws designed to keep people and animals safe.
Its not hard, not all that expensive, and you should already be doing all the things they require anyway.
*Responsible* rescues and shelters already do this - why don't?
