Marching Band Director (seasonal part time) (New Orleans)
Position Summary:
Gris Gris Strut is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the part-time position of Marching Band Director. The Marching Band Director provides the administrative and event organization, coordination, and support necessary to ensure the success of marching band operations.
Position Responsibilities include but not limited by:
· Contact previous band members and recruit additional musicians to complete line-up and fill positions
· Organize and lead two productive, punctual 1.5 hour evening or weekend band rehearsals a week that include sections and rehearsals without sheets for improved memorization of music (minimum of eight rehearsals before Jan. 17)
· Record songs weekly to send to Director for dance troupe and flag corps
· Communicate with musicians and Director to keep organization of band and troupe on schedule
· Manage and maintain band uniforms
· Lead and play in all scheduled Mardi Gras parades (generally four or five)
· Help organize band for additional performances throughout the year.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of overall operation of instrumental music program
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Past participation in a marching band
Must be able to play a marching band instrument in the band
Prior teaching or band directing experience a plus.
