Moving without all the extra fees (columbia and surrounding)

Have you read these ads??

Good grief....

90%+ of these "moving ads" end in "we have a 3 hr minimum charge of $65 (or more) per hour, per man.

"After that it will be $65 and hour for the duration." (in 18 yrs of moving, I've yet to see a three hour move unless the move consists of moving much less than the entire contents of a home) (most moves are typically 5 hours or more)

THEN (it isn't over yet)
"we charge $65 an hour for every other mover that joins in on the job." (wow, only two? Then of course it's MORE MONEY FOR MORE MEN?)

THE MATH: We know the job is gonna take more than three hours (providing the moving crew protects your stuff and packs a tight truck) anything less and you would require more trips.....and whats that mean? Yup...more charges....because extra trips cost more

Back to the math....$65 @ 3hr minimum(lol) thats $195...FOR 3HRS!!! and lets not forget ONLY TWO MEN....(who will be very tired and SLOW if they are the only people moving....slow means MORE MONEY.

LOOK at the uhaul website or any other moving truck rental establishment. They provide (typical hours) based on the size truck you want to rent.

For instance a 3 bedroom home will typically fill a 20 ft truck no problem. In fact, presently a 3 bedroom home would fill a 26ft. When you select the size truck...uhaul assigns a time frame (last time i checked they are in the moving business) a 20ft truck gives you 8 hours and a 26 ft gives 10. And i tell you from experience.....THAT'S AGGRESSIVE (its not easy to complete moves using the times uhaul gives you intially)....but of course it is they want that truck back to rent to someone else.

A little secret....most moving truck companies give you 24hrs with thier trucks because they know they are being aggressive with the times...

So lets go with a typical 3 bedroom home with 2 men. Id bet my left arm it will take anywhere from 6-10 hrs and that's assuming there are no stairs involved.

Remember our $65/hr rate?
More math $65/hr Xs 10hrs is $650 (ask yourself..."why exactly are these movers quoting these "3 hour minimums"? It's to give the impression that 3 hours "give or take" except it's give A LOT...more like give 7-8 more hours.

For labor....
If you read on .....many of the ads say they charge fees for miles and fuel (some wait until the end of the move to tell you this). Or the latest statement I have seen and i find hilarious is a "service fee for using their trucks).....

Lets not forget fees for stairs, long carries, and some even try to charge for disassemble and reassembly. Oh yes and appliances....somewhere over the years I missed the memo telling us movers that we were now charging customers for moving their appliances. WOW seriously???

Wrap up.....

Two guys for anything more than a two bedroom.....BAD IDEA...they will be fatigued and will kill you in the latter half of the move.

HOPE that their truck is large enough....otherwise expect numerous trips.

DONT pay extra for appliances to be moved...or disassembly or reassembly of beds...its part of the move. Pianos and gun safes are understandably not typical

Fuel and mileage? How many times cam a customer be charged for the same truck?

If you have read this far, then you know we are trying to expose these tactics because we dont practice them. With us....you have one price. thats it. No surprises no extra charges and more than two men on jobs that would require more than two men.

Your move shouldnt be about how fast it can get done. Thats why we don't work by the hour. We work until its done. Period
