Very special dog needs home ASAP (Washington Humane Society)

Hickory is a sweet, lovable male boxer mix. He's having health issues (suspected megaesophagus). His health issues can be managed with a special feeding chair that comes free with him to his adoptive or forever home. The Humane Society will provide all the information you need on caring for him. He needs more observation in a home to confirm a diagnosis, but dogs with megaesophagus can live long, happy lives. Please read the note from his instagram page below and direct all inquiries to the WHS GA Avenue Adoption Center by contacting them at

Hickory's adoption fee has been waived. Please share and spread the word!!

Hi IG friends,

This is the most important post of my life- my ability to thrive and live depends on it.
I have some gastrointestinal (GI) issues that make eating difficult for me, I keep throwing up my food. WHS thinks I might have megaesophagus, but further diagnostics will have to be done by my adopter to make a definitive diagnosis. The staff at the WHS have worked tirelessly to manage my issues and maintain my quality of life in the shelter environment, ever hopeful that I would be adopted by someone willing to help me.

I'm still a happy, affectionate, and playful dog! I go on regular walks, and I'm one of the sweetest, most cuddly dogs my Instahuman has ever met. Further diagnostics and a calm home environment are critical to helping me have a high quality of life. In a home, my medical issues may not be insurmountable--I'll even have a Bailey Chair (it helps make it easier for me to eat!) to bring with me to an adoptive home. More details about my medical care and how my needs are being met are available to potential adopters who contact WHS but I want to share this on IG to ensure I get the highest number of people to read this.

Though my care at WHS is incredible and nurturing, the shelter, as many know, is a stressful environment for any dog. For someone with my GI issues, this environment can exacerbate my condition and may, in fact, lead to something more serious if I don't get adopted soon.
Please re-post, hashtag, call a friend, email a friend, do whatever you want to do, but please do it soon if you can. My adoption fee is now waived!

I understand that my medical prognosis is uncertain if you adopt me, which makes it hard emotionally and financially for some, but I promise I will love you as long as you love me.

Please direct all inquiries to adopt me to the WHS GA Avenue Adoption Center by contacting them at
or . They are open from noon to 7 p.m. every day except Wednesday. You can still call and leave a message about me though!

My Instahuman didn't know about the urgency of this situation until recently, and WHS worked with her to create this post, to increase awareness about me and my IMMEDIATE need for.
