I'm Andrew Gorny, a solo guitarist from Portland, OR, relocated to Northern CA. I'm a working musician and guitar teacher by trade, have done over a hundred weddings, even more private events, have spent over 1000+ gig hours on cruise ships, have sold thousands of my records worldwide, and have opened for some of the best musicians in the world on tours. On my days off and ashore, I play on the street, just for fun and some extra bucks/networking. However, craigslist is also a very viable angle for networking.
Whether you're getting married, opening a cool coffee shop, or just barbecuing some corn and steak, I'm down to add music to anything. Here's what you can count on when you hire me:
OBLIGATIONS:
For all events:
I will show up on time, with all music prepared (generally early)
I will dress appropriately to your specifications for the gig
I will provide you with my original music on CD free of charge (or digital if you prefer)
I will provide a contract at your request, to guarantee that these obligations will be met and that your expectations will be exceeded
Additionally, for weddings:
I have 7 suits and generally can find an aesthetic match to the rest of your party, and should a solution not be available on my end, am willing to meet with the party for fitting a rental (to be taken from my commission)
I will be playing YOUR requests arranged for solo guitar for a ceremony (I have done all kinds of tunes, from the typical Pachelbel Canon to Shostakovich, the Beatles, Van Halen, AC/DC)
I also provide 10 CDs in custom packaging with your wedding photo and the ceremonial music played, to give to family and close friends. For this there's a 30 day turnaround because it takes time to produce the entire record.
The fee for the gig also accommodates any pre- and post-ceremonial live music required by you.
GEAR:
I have both steel string and nylon string guitars, hand-made, with the finest pickups you can place in an instrument. Both setups are completely mobile and can be done outdoors without any power, and have audiophile quality.
What you hear on my website is exactly the level of quality you will get live (if you see me downtown sometime come listen, though it won't sound great amidst all the city noise)
PRICING:
All prices are negotiable. If you have some kind of super sweet gift certificate to trade, or a sweet instrument you don't use anymore, or something, don't hesitate to throw it out there.
For events: I generally charge $50/hr, rounding up to the hour, including setup and strikedown time. So a 2 hour gig will usually cost $150.
I do custom gigs with your playlist (say you want a whole gig of Bach/Mozart) but I charge an extra $30/performance-hour for custom music to prepare for the gig. That is to say, I only charge extra for the gig, not the arrangement.
For weddings: $450 flat fee for pre-ceremony and ceremony music. This is to accomodate the ceremony, arranging custom music, recording them and packaging the CDs.
If you look at this rate and think "golly, that guy can't be serious." but you're a guitar lover and want a memorable musical experience, just negotiate, throw me what you can and we'll see what we can do. I don't charge for simple conversation :)
I generally do not charge for the rehearsal if you need me to play it, unless it's somewhere ridiculous, like..... Texas
