BASEMENT

Do you have a damp, dark, dreary "Basement" with lots of "dust and cob webs on windows and walls that you use for storage? Are boxes stacked up on top of each other, squashed, leaning / falling over and you wonder at times what's in them? Maybe it's important paper work, fragile antiques, personal stuff or "useless junk" just sitting downstairs gathering mold and mildew during the years and have to be thrown out (which is not healthy for anyone)?

Are there times that you go down to the basement and want to clean an area to save these things you cherish, but get frustrated and decide not to do anything after looking at it for awhile putting it off once again ?

Have you taken or want to take family members into your home such as a son / daughter or senior parent(s) to help them with living expenses or "health care" and you don't have the living space other than that unfinished basement, attic or attached garage that you use for storage which is just a mess collecting dust and doing nothing?

Now's the time to turn that "Basement" into a warm, cozy and inviting area by installing a new bedroom(s), bathroom , personal office, family playroom, recreational sport room with custom built in bar and organized storage room with lots of wide shelves. To hide the eye sores such as furnace, metal duct work, oil barrel(s), water heater, water filtration systems, pipes and drains, "Partition Off" and" Box In" the above items in basement then installing bi fold louver doors for easy access and "good ventilation". Why not take advantage to convert these valuable unused areas into productive living space which also "increases the value" of your home considerably! And if your furnace can carry the basement heat with a "new zone", it can have a comfortable room temperature to keep everything warm in a climate controlled environment without the smell of dampness. Please Note: Electric heat can also be used to heat basement.

Have you been thinking about having mom / dad living with you? Your mind would be at ease if they had a safe place, but don't have a clue where to start and you wish they had a place with "no stairs climbing" to get to bathroom / kitchen or outside etc. and close to your home to make things easy for both of you? How about your "Attached Two Car Garage"? Is it filled/ cluttered with boxes, bikes, toys, bags of clothes, lawn mower, snow blower to name a few items and you can't even walk in it ? Please Note:(putting all items into a back yard "shed" will keep mower, snow blower bikes etc safe and covered year round)?
Why not turn that garage into an "In - Law Apartment"! Partition one corner for a bedroom and bathroom then leaving the rest of space for a kitchenette and open living room / dining room open concept. Of course garage doors would be removed and replaced with a big bright window(s) and a 36" front or side entrance door would also be installed. A rear door would be needed for a "means of egress" and using door widths of 36" (or more) wide for wheelchair accessibility is a plus. Heat would be zoned in from the main part of house furnace if it has adequate BTU's or electric wall heat is another source. Handicap kitchenette (height for wheel chairs), "wall grab bars" on side of bed or in bathrooms.

And then there's that "Attic Space", interior wood frame exposed, cold / drafty wind in winter, hot/ humid in summer, insects living in nooks and crannies staring at you, more stacked boxes crammed against those walls and the wasted heat loss going up and through the roof in winter! If there's a stairway leading to your attic and it has a floor that's a plus. Depending on how much square footage you have in your attic you can do a lot. You can add a bedroom, bathroom, office, kitchenette and partition off a corner or knee walls for storage with wall shelves! Add heat from your existing furnace if it has an extra zone if not then electric heat), ceiling lights, AC (if you have central air already) or air conditioner built in wall skylights and warm carpet to get "more square footage" of comfortable living space (which will also increases the value of your home).
